Eriksen Flanker Task

Follow the middle arrow and explore selective attention and interference control in this session. This is an original browser implementation without population norms or diagnostic validation.

  • About 3 minutes
  • Physical keyboard
  • Practice included
  • No sign-up

Look only at the middle arrow. Press the left arrow key for ← and the right arrow key for →. Ignore the surrounding arrows. Give equal importance to speed and accuracy.

8 practice rounds, then 80 scored rounds. Practice is not scored.

Understand the task

How this online Flanker task works

The task asks you to follow a central arrow while ignoring surrounding arrows that may point the same way or conflict with it.

What this task samples

It samples selective attention and interference control while you respond to one central target.

What appears in your result

Your report describes accuracy and usable response times for matching and conflicting arrows, including their mean difference.

Method and quality checks

8 practice rounds, then 80 scored rounds. Practice is not scored. Responses under 150 ms are marked early. Early and timing-affected trials are excluded from accuracy/rate denominators and response-time summaries. Counts refer only to usable trials unless marked otherwise.

FixMind’s original implementation of a published experimental paradigm. Our code, instructions and geometric stimuli are original. This is not the NIH Toolbox, TOVA, or another commercial test, and it does not use their norms.

Before you begin

Use a computer and a physical keyboard in a quiet setting. Close distractions and keep this tab in view. Sleep, fatigue, stress and device timing can affect your experience.
